Description:

This is an excellent example of the desirable Volvo 240 GL, in a beautiful soft gold, with tan leather interior. In many ways, this is the nicest and cleanest 240 we've ever had in our inventory - a true survivor.

Outside, the car is exceptionally attractive, with gleaming original paint and stylish alloy wheels. This Volvo was clearly garage kept, with the original paint being in excellent condition overall, and with all of the lights clear and free from any cracking or yellowing common to Florida cars - there are two mild stress cracks on the right rear lens, but they are far from noticeable or distracting. The front lamps and signals (often faded and yellowed on these models) are pristine and clear, and firmly bolted in place with the factory hardware.  The flat black decals around the tops of the doors have suffered some tightening and cracking, but this is not a serious distraction and is quite typical of many 240s. There are minimal dings or imperfections, and you can be proud to park this Volvo in any driveway - it's a top notch model, and one of the cleanest we've seen of this vintage.

Inside is also very good, with beautiful leather seats having only extremely minimal wear damage and a dashboard with none of the cracking or fading common to this model. It has real leather seats (unfortunately, as we've been test driving it, a seam split has occurred on the base of the passenger side, but it is a minor distraction and does not prevent the car from appearing much better than average inside).  We do have a high quality and low priced upholstery connection in Naples, and are happy to have this repaired for a price much lower than retail if requested by the winner. The rear seats, carpet and trim are in excellent condition, with no signs of wear or cracking. The headliner is perfect.

The upgraded Volvo stereo system with cassette, dash-mounted fader and EQ sounds terrific, and this is a rare rear headrest model reminiscent of some Rolls Royce models. The gauges (including the factory tach) all work 100%, as does the central power locking, cruise control, power windows, power mirrors, power antenna, rear defrost, and stereo equalizer. The wipers are newly replaced and work perfectly. The air conditioning is very cold, and being of Scandinavian origins, the heat works as well as you might suspect. The sunroof opens smoothly and does not leak.

We've just installed four new Pirelli P400 Touring tires, and it drives much like a new car. The mechanics are perfect, and as good as we've seen - it fires right up and idles smoothly, and drives down the road solidly and straight with plenty of available power. The oil pressure and engine temperature are just as they should be in any conditions, city or highway.  The alternator and battery charge well and the AC compressor is quiet and fresh. The suspension is remarkably solid, allowing the car to handle bumps and imperfections in the road confidently and without noise.  The brakes have been recently overhauled, and the car stops well and safely.  Our ASE/A&P Certified Master Auto Mechanic has just installed a new OEM timing belt, so you will not have to worry about changing it for another 80,000 miles.  If kept on a regular schedule of proper maintenance, this Volvo could deliver another 300,000 miles of dependable driving with no major mechanical work - the 240 series is legendary for longevity, and it's not unusual to see them with 400,000 miles or more on the original motor. This is just such a candidate for that benchmark.

If you are looking for an extremely clean 240 to use as safe, dependable transportation, look no further - this is as nice a one as you'll find on eBay, and you can bid with confidence knowing you'll be picking up a first class example.  We've owned a lot of 240s, and have a special attachment to what enthusiasts affectionately call "bricks." We can tell you they don't come much nicer than this one.
